Almaty Metro is an off-street high-speed rail transport system in Almaty.The first and only one in Kazakhstan, the second in Central Asia (after Tashkent) and the sixteenth and last (as of May 2019) on the territory of the former USSR. Opened December 1, 2011. On the first day, December 1, 2011, 11,000 passengers used the metro services in 6 hours.During the first 3.5 days, about 130 thousand passengers were transported.

In 1988, active construction of the subway began in Almaty. The 1990s were the period of creating the material and technical base and the scientific base of metro construction. On December 1, 2011, with the participation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 7 stations were put into operation – “Rayymbek Batyra”, “Zhibek-Zholy”, “Almaly”, “Abay”, Baikonyr”, “Drama Theater named after. M. Auezov”, “Alatau”.Later, in 2015, the “Sairan” and “Moskva” stations appeared.To date, 9 stations operate in the Almaty metro, the length of the lines is 10.3 km, which are serviced by 28 cars, a contract has been signed for the supply of eight more electric rolling stocks of four cars each.

To date, work is underway on the construction of two more stations “Saryarka” and “Dostyk” with the introduction of the first metro line into the length expands by 3.1 km, and in the near future it is planned to build the station “Kalkaman” and “Bus station” Western “.In recent years, significant work has been carried out in the subway to ensure the safe and comfortable transportation of passengers. The metro has become part of the sick residents of the city of Almaty. During the operation of the subway, passenger traffic is constantly increasing. So, in 2016, the passenger traffic amounted to 12.4 million people, in 2017 – 14 million people, in 2018 – 16.6 million people, and by the end of 2019, the passenger traffic amounted to 18.4 million people.
