The new Wonder of World
The new Wonder of World is a unique natural monument and one of «7 Miracles of Kazakhstan», this Sand Barkhan is a visiting card of the Altyn Emel Nature Reserve. It is located on the right bank of the river «Ili» in the north-east direction from the city of Almaty. It is called «Singing», because in dry weather, wind bypassing the slopes of the dune, extracts amazingly melodic sounds from them.
Amazing music of nature
Size of Barkhan – 120 meters in height and 4 kilometers in length. When you climb the mountainside, the sand begins to slide down from under your feet, and from the depths of the hill there is a sound resembling the hum of an airplane engine. Nobody knows where the dune came from, but the amazing fact remains that it does not move around the territory under the influence of strong steppe winds.
Winter sports in the summer heat
Due to its pronounced crest and height, the dune attracts the attention of ski and snowboarding enthusiasts, many people have already masterfully learned how to conquer the slope of this sandy hill. Climbing a 45 degree slope to the top of the heel can be called heavy, but those who master it will get a decent reward for a stunning view of the Ili Valley!
