Almarasan gorge

A delightful place for picnics and walks

This is a popular place for tourism and simple walks among those who do not want to climb the peaks, and just want to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature. The gorge is located in the south-west of Almaty, you can get there by driving up the Navoi street. This is the northern slope of the Zailiysky Alataumountains. Two rivers flow through the gorge – the Prohodnaya and the Kazachka, closer to the city, they unite, forming the Bolshaya Almatinka River.

Warm source for walkers

The height of the gorge is 1780 meters above sea level. In this area there are many interesting places and colorful landscapes. Among the most famous are Ayusai (it is Bear Falls) and a warm thermal-radon sulfuric spring, where anyone can swim. According to an ancient legend, the warriors of the legendary Khan Tamerlan were treated in this very source.
