The ski resort "Shymbulak", located in the picturesque gorge of the Zailiysky Alatau, at an altitude of 2260 meters above sea level, is not only a ski resort, but also a place for escape from routine and city noise, accessible for visits at any time of the year.

Despite its relatively small size, Shymbulak is certainly one of the most modern, most comfortable and most luxurious ski resorts in Central Asia. It is popular with its mild climate, plenty of sunny days and plenty of snow in winter. The average snow depth during the season is about 1.5 meters.
The ski season starts in December and can only end in April. Favorable natural conditions attract tourists, mountaineers, skiers to this area with an accessible terrain, allow to lay ski tracks with a difference of heights of 900-1000 meters. Shymbulak has its own spirit. Even those who first got on skis, feel here confidently. In the ski resort there are slopes and trails for every taste and for any level of preparation, including routes for downhill.

The resort has functional lifts, there is a ski school, a hotel for those who prefer to ride on the slopes all day, restaurants, bowling, a sauna and a children's playground with a lift for children. There is also an opportunity to rent equipment.
Here you can ride on the cable car to the Talgar Pass, admire the lights of the night city from a height of 3 thousand meters above sea level, fly on a paraglider, ride a buggy, ski down the mountain slopes in winter, and drive along the already familiar bike routes in the summer. Since the mid 50s of the XX century Shymbulak was a training base for Soviet skiers, championships of the USSR and Kazakhstan were held on its slopes.
Every year in early February, athletes compete here, playing the "Alexandra Artemenko Prize", the famous local skier. The Shymbulak ski resort is the venue for the Winter Asian Games 2011, the Winter Universiade 2017 and the Alpine Skiing Competitions (both high-speed and technical). The proximity to the city allows those who want a little distraction after the end of the day, easily reach this place. The easiest way to get to Shymbulak is by buses 6 and 12, which depart from the hotel "Kazakhstan" every half hour, to the High-mountain sports complex "Medeu" along Dostyk Avenue. Mountain-skiing routes are served by the gondola road from VSC "Medeu" to the base station "Shymbulak" (the third in the world in length - 4,5 kilometers). Ski resort "Shymbulak" is a popular place for recreation of local residents who are both fond of breathing fresh mountain air and active recreation.
