Kazakhs are real poets and philosophers. Such art genres as theatre, painting and ensemble singing were brought to the steppe during the alliance with Tsarist Russia. For steppe nation the song was the main way of self-expression. With the song people could tell about historical events and news, even tell the sovereigns quite impartial massages. The ability to improvise was very valuable, and akyns, national performers, arranged the main steppe show – the contest of two performers, calling battle now. Modern musicologists are amazed by the richness of the musical treasury of Kazakh nation: language picturesqueness, philosophical themes and brevity of expression. Very seldom you can see the nomads got without the most widespread instrument – the sacred dombra.
National clothes are also related to the national culture of Kazakhstan. Men’s clothes should be worn with “chapan” (a belted oriental robe). Velvet is frequently used for its production. High felt caps, soft skullcaps and fox fur hats – malakay – are also the part of the men’s costume. Women’s national clothes consist of a white cotton suite, or colored silk dress, over which the richly embroidered velvet vest is worn. For heads women wear hats, usually silk. For older women a headwear is a white kerchief called kimeshek. Brides wear quite tall hats with a sharp top, decorated with bunches of feathers – saukele.
